Passivhaus Prototype Houses

BRE Competitions 2009-2012

As Partner of sustainablebydesign I worked in a multi-disciplinary team with colleagues on three international BRE Passivhaus competitions 2009-2011 and were successful finalists in all of them.

Near Zero workplace building 2007

New offices and touchdown facilities

As Sustainability Director at Broadway Malyan Architects, I acted as Project Architect for a prototype near zero office building for BP’s campus at Sunbury-on-Thames.

The Bridge,
Dartford

Mixed use masterplan + first 500 homes

This development – shortlisted for a Housing Design Award in 2008 – includes blueways, greenways, a mixed-use district centre and school, innovation centre and local play and homezones.

12 apartments for social rent

The building contains twelve flats for social rent accessed from two communal stairways with street front doors and rear gardens with off-street parking.

Works to listed farmhouse and new studio

As Partner at sustainablebydesign I acted as Project Architect for the design of extensions + a new Passivhaus studio for a Grade II listed farmhouse in Gloucestershire.

Royal Holloway College

Completed in 1999, this building was a winner of RIBA’s Regional Design Award (and Stirling Prize candidate).

Cow Lane Newark – winner of UK’s first zero carbon housing competition 1998

I with my ECD colleague Nigel Craddock won this RIBA open international competition sponsored by government’s DETR for the UK’s first ‘Zero Carbon Housing’ on a brownfield river-side site in Newark

E2 Rebuild European retrofit exemplar, Thamesmead

One of our key commissions at sustainablebydesign was for the architectural works to deliver the factory-produced overcladding of 20 flats at Thamesmead for the specialist contractor engaged by Gallions Housing Association to Passivhaus Enerphit standard..
